Primary Hand Controls

Primary hand controls allow drivers to operate the accelerator and brake by hand, providing an alternative to standard foot pedals. Options such as push-pull, push-rock, and right-angle controls accommodate different movements and preferences.

Prescription Required for Many Driving Aids

Many adaptive driving aids require a prescription or recommendation from a Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) before they can be purchased and professionally installed. Requirements can vary depending on the equipment and the individual driver’s needs.

Our mobility consultants can help you understand the process and determine the next steps. Contact your nearest Superior Van & Mobility location for a free consultation.

FeatherLite City Mode (SCM.CITY)

A FeatherLite driving mode that reduces maximum throttle to 50% for more precise control in stop-and-go traffic, parking lots, and other tight environments. Sure Grip now includes City Mode with every FeatherLite hand-control system.

Push-Rock Hand Controls

A mechanical accelerator-and-brake system with a vertical handle that can be installed on either side of the steering wheel. The driver rocks the handle back to accelerate and pushes it toward the dashboard to brake.

Push-Twist Hand Controls

A mechanical system with a horizontal handle that may be installed on either side of the steering wheel. The driver twists the handle like a motorcycle throttle to accelerate and pushes it toward the dashboard to brake.

Right-Angle Hand Controls

A mechanical system with a horizontal handle that accelerates when pulled down toward the driver’s legs and brakes when pushed toward the dashboard. The control body remains stationary while the handle pivots.

Push-Pull Hand Controls

A straightforward mechanical hand-control system with a horizontal handle on either side of the steering wheel. The driver pulls the handle toward themselves to accelerate and pushes it toward the dashboard to brake.
