Although the Dodge Grand Caravan was discontinued in 2021 and replaced by the Chrysler Voyager & Pacifica, the BraunAbility CompanionVan wheelchair van remains a smart, budget-friendly solution, especially for those who always travel with a caregiver or attendant. This entry-level, wheelchair-accessible van features a center-section lowered floor to improve headroom and provide wheelchair users with a more comfortable line of sight while riding. Unlike full-cut conversions, the factory-installed front and third-row seats remain intact, offering standard seating for up to four ambulatory adults.
CompanionVan Conversion Update – July 2020:
Beginning August 3, 2020, BraunAbility upgraded the CompanionVan handicap-accessible van with a power ramp system, replacing the previous manual version. If you’re shopping for a pre-owned model, confirm whether the ramp is powered or manual, as both configurations may still be available on the market.
The ramp on the CompanionVan wheelchair-accessible vans converted after August 3, 2020, now features a powered fold-out ramp operated by a separate key fob for added convenience. The ramp is 29.25 inches wide and made of lightweight aluminum, supporting up to 1,000 pounds. Its powder-coated, non-skid surface provides excellent traction, while slotted openings help remove dirt and debris, enhancing safety and cleanliness inside the handicap van.
